# Print Jobs

**Print Jobs** in the sidebar shows what the Hub has printed recently and lets
you retry anything that failed. This is the screen to open when a customer says
"I never got my receipt".

## Reading the list

Each row shows **when** the job was created, which **printer** it went to, its
**status**, how many **attempts** it took, and any **details** about what went
wrong.

Filter by **All**, **Active**, **Completed**, or **Failed**. Active covers
anything still in progress — waiting, printing, or waiting to be retried.

| Status | What it means |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Queued** | Waiting its turn |
| **Retrying in Ns** | The Hub could not reach the printer and will try again on its own |
| **Printing** | Being sent to the printer right now |
| **Completed** | Sent to the printer successfully |
| **Failed** | Stopped and waiting for you |
| **Canceled** | You dismissed it — it will not print |

The Hub can confirm it handed the job to the printer. It cannot tell whether
the paper ran out halfway through. If a job shows Completed but nothing came
out, check paper and the printer's own status light.

## When a print fails

The Hub retries a failed print by itself when it could not reach the printer —
you will see **Retrying in 30s** on the job. It tries three times, waiting a
little longer each time.

If the printer stopped **partway through** a receipt, or the Hub was closed
mid-print, the job stops and waits for you instead. That is deliberate: retrying
on its own could print a second, overlapping copy on top of the paper already in
your hand.

Jobs waiting for you show as **Failed** with the reason. Press **Retry** to try
again, or **Cancel** to dismiss it.

## Retrying a failed job

Fix the cause first — paper, power, cable, or network — then use the row's
retry action. The job goes back into the queue and prints on the next attempt.
Retry gives it three fresh attempts, so the attempts count can read something
like **3 / 6** afterwards.

If a job is no longer wanted (a voided order, a duplicate), cancel it instead so
it doesn't print later when the printer reconnects. A canceled job moves to
**Canceled** and stops offering a Retry action.

A whole column of failures that start at the same time is almost always one
cause — the printer lost power or dropped off the network. Fix that, then
retry the newest job to confirm before retrying the rest.

## Why jobs fail

- The printer is off, out of paper, or its cover is open
- A network printer changed IP address
- A USB cable was unplugged, or the printer was unplugged and moved
- The printer was removed from the Hub while jobs were still queued
- The Hub was closed or restarted while a job was printing

When a job the register handed off finally gives up, the tablet or phone shows
"A print job failed. Check Print Jobs on the Hub." — this screen is where that
  message points.

For diagnosis beyond this screen, see
[Troubleshooting](/docs/hub/troubleshooting).

## How long jobs are kept

Print jobs are kept for **90 days**, then removed automatically.
