# Staff Pay Structure

Not every staff member is paid the same way — some earn commission only, others have a base wage, and some earn whichever is higher. Pay structure is set on the staff member's own profile and feeds directly into their pay statement.

## The five pay types

- **Commission only** — earns only what they make from commission entries. No base pay. Jun, a wash-bay attendant, is set up this way — his whole pay statement is the commission ledger for the period.
- **Fixed only** — earns only their base pay; no commission is calculated for them. Ana, who works the front desk taking payments and scheduling, is Fixed only — she doesn't work jobs, so there's nothing to compute a commission on.
- **Fixed + commission** — base pay and commission are added together.
- **Greater of** — whichever is larger for the period, base pay or commission, not both.
- **Other** — not paid automatically. Use it for people who help out but aren't paid through Fuze Store, like family members or volunteers. They can still be tagged on jobs, but they earn no commission and have no base pay. If you do give them something, add it by hand as an addition on a payout.

## Setting a base pay amount

When a pay type includes a base amount, set the **base pay** and how it's counted:

- **Monthly** — prorated by the days in the payout period. A payout for exactly one half of a month (the 1st–15th or 16th–end of month) gets exactly half the monthly amount. Any other range counts each month's days over that month's length: 1 August to 15 September is a full August plus half of September.
- **Weekly** — prorated by the number of days in the payout period.
- **Daily** — multiplied by the number of days the staff member actually worked, based on their recorded sessions for that period.

## Minimum wage note

If you set a regional minimum daily wage in **Preferences → Store → Staff commissions**, a pay statement whose gross pay falls under that floor for the days worked shows an **informational** shortfall note. Fuze Store does not top up the payout automatically — add the difference yourself as an addition if you choose to.

## Why is my number different?

- **A Fixed-only or Other staff member shows no commission.** That's expected — commission is never calculated for those pay types, however many jobs they're tagged on. Their **Default commission rate** section is hidden on the staff form for the same reason.
- **A base pay amount looks lower than expected.** Check whether it's Monthly or Weekly — both prorate to the days in the payout period, so a single half-month pay period never shows the full monthly figure.
- **The shortfall note appeared, but the payout amount didn't change.** The minimum-wage note is informational only; add a manual addition if you want to top up the payout.

## Staff who belong to an organization

If your store is a branch of an organization and a staff member is one of the organization's [people](/docs/account/organizations/organization-people), their pay comes from their [pay profile](/docs/account/organizations/organization-pay-profiles), not from this form. On their staff page the pay fields are hidden and a card says **Managed by your organization**. Change their pay on the organization's People screen. The organization's [pay runs](/docs/account/organizations/organization-pay-runs) pay them, so your branch doesn't record a payout for them.
